Arc de Triomphe

After watching and reading about the French history I've realized the French fought for the rights of the people. They continued to fight for their rights until they were met. The French were inlove with the idea for change so they fought for change.

Before the French Revolution the French lived in a monarchy. Within the monarchy there were three estates. The 1st Estate was the Church who were paid in tithes but paid no one. The 2nd Estate were the nobles who were paid by the third for the land. However the 2nd Estate rarely paid taxes. Lastly, the 3rd Estate were the commoners and paid taxes and tithes even though they could not afford it. Even though the thrid estate paid the second and first estate they didn't have a voice in the government. The lack support from the government leads to the Tennis Court Oath. In this the 3rd estate pledged to gain a say in the government by doing whatever it takes. Their fight for rights kicked off with the Battle of Bastille and the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen was established.

The establishment of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen was only a peace of paper after Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were guillotined. However the king and queen were the only two of th 15,000 killed by the Committee of Public Safety. This organization was designed to protect the French but only killed people who were believed to be against the revolution including Rospierre, the head of the committee.

The French may have fought for a democratic government but fell under an empire as Napoleon Bonaparte declared himself emperor. Napoleon helped the French economy and the people were able to provide more as Napoleon Bonaparte conques Western Europe. The more he conquered the larger his ego got. His campaign was ended when he entered Russia. Russias best defense winter froze most of Napoleons army. As he retreats back to France Napoleon is sent to exiled but retreat one hundred days later for his last battle, Waterloo. Napoleon is captured again and sent to exile where he finally dies of a bad stomach virus.

Napoleon III created the second empire and he had the plan to make Paris the city it is today. He created avenues and a sewage system which improved the French technology. In 1870 the Franco-Prussian war ended and Napoleon III reign as well. The new republic begins with Marshal MacMahon as president.

With a new ggovernment France grows and prospers but their prosperity ends as World War I and II rips France apart. With the help of Europe and America France was put back on it's feet
